When the days grow cold And the nights are long When the sound of the wind Carries old Christmas songs We’re setting a table Like we always do And we’re saving a place for you If there’s a lump in your throat when you try to sing If you wait on a phone call but that phone won’t ring Then I sure do hope that you’ll come on through If the lights on the houses make your home seem dark There’s a fire in your fireplace but not in your heart Then we’re saving a place for you There’s a place at the table for you If you’ve grown one year older but don’t feel much wiser If the thought of Kris Kringle turns you into Heat Miser If you feel less like rubber, and a bit more like glue If you’ve worn down your floorboards and pulled your hair out If Silent nights make you want to shout We’re still saving a place for you There’s a place at the table for you If your Christmas list got shorter this year If the sound of bells ringing doesn’t fill you with cheer If you’re home for the season or just passing through If there’s no one beside you to hold your hand And the place where you’re walking is no /wonderland We’re saving a place for you There’s a place at the table for you

I just can't wait for Christmas weather When my whole family comes together The snow is falling down The fire is the place we gather round Our singing makes a joyful sound Oo ah oo ah oo Can't wait to put on Christmas sweaters I'm sending all my best friends letters I'm signing them with love And telling them the things I'm dreaming of We're all hand in hand and hand in glove I've loved her ever since I met her Still want to get to know her better Baby, come in from the snow And stand with me beneath the mistletoe The Christmas lights are dim next to your glow I'll tell you anything you want to know Jesus, the God who walked among us Reached down and took all our sin from us Jesus, upon you, there the dove is You gave up all to show what love is That a criminal like me Could have my chains unbound and be set free That a criminal like me Could have his chains unbound and be set free That a criminal like me Could have his chains unbound and be set free A criminal like me Could have his chains unbound and be set free What better Christmas gift could there be?
3.
Let's pack our suitcase and Visit your dad and mama Tie up our bootlaces Wear 'em with our pajamas I'll grind the coffee beans You get the kettle ready You shred the magazines I'll help you toss confetti I'm so glad it's Christmas time again You have a cup of cocoa I’ll sip some apple cider Your aunt will play the oboe I’ll pick guitar beside her Your hipster cousin, Gerald shaved his Movember moustache We go out singing carols We'll sing whatever you ask I'm so glad it's Christmas time again Let’s stay an extra day And start some new traditions Hey, it’s the holidays Forget about nutrition Wait just a moment with me Under the mistletoe Peak out the window and see An angel in the snow I'm so glad it's Christmas time again But Christmas is more than candy canes And sugarplum fairies in our brains Not just another day to stuff our face like on Thanksgiving Christmas is full of the sweetest sounds Cause once we were lost but now we’re found Jesus was born in Bethlehem that we may go on living Once we were dead but now we live Once we just took, but now we give Amazing Grace, Amazing Grace

Bells are ringing Children singing Sometimes I feel the spirit Nights grow longer But our light is stronger So darling there’s no need to fear it I know that every day Can’t be a holiday Let’s make the most of it Before it fades away Cozy weather Spend time together I’m starting to feel the spirit Songs grow louder I couldn’t be prouder Daughter I want you to hear it With you here every day Feels like a holiday Let’s make the most of it Don’t let it fade away Let’s put the tree up It’s picking me up I swear I’m feeling the spirit Hang up the holly We’re feeling jolly It’s Christmas, I want to cheer it I know not every day Can be a holiday So let’s make the most of it We’re feeling the spirit today I feel the spirit!

Haul out the holly Put up the tree before my spirit falls again Fill up the stocking I may be rushing things, but deck the halls again now For we need a little Christmas Right this very minute Candles in the window Carols at the spinet Yes, we need a little Christmas Right this very minute It hasn't snowed a single flurry But Santa, dear, we're in a hurry So climb down the chimney Turn on the brightest string of light I've ever seen Slice up the fruitcake It's time we hung some tinsel on that evergreen bough For I've grown a little leaner Grown a little colder Grown a little sadder Grown a little older And I need a little angel Sitting on my shoulder I need a little Christmas now Oh we need a little Christmas Right this very minute Candles in the window Carols at the spinet And we need a little Christmas Right this very minute It hasn't snowed a single flurry But Santa, dear, we're in a hurry So wrap up the presents It's been a long time since I felt good, neighborly Pour me some cider It's time we hung some tinsel on that mayberry bough For we need a little Christmas Right this very minute Candles in the window Carols at the spinet And we need a little Christmas Right this very minute We need a little Christmas now We need a little Christmas now

Good news to the poor He was sent to proclaim New sight to the blind Liberty in His name Captive men shall He free Broken hearts shall He mend Comfort to those who mourn Prison stays he shall end It’s the year of the Lord Let us all celebrate It’s the year of our Lord May it not pass away Strengthen my weak hands make firm my feeble knees Wipe clean my heart Take all malice from me We will sing out in joy And put on festive clothes Even deserts rejoice And blossom as a rose It’s the year of the Lord Let us all celebrate It’s the year of our Lord May it not pass away
9.
A small and single candle Can’t make the darkness hide But when two join together The light is multiplied We made it through the day We’re waiting through the night String up a thousand lightbulbs And let’s make Christmas bright Oh let’s make Christmas bright Brother light a candle It’s getting dark outside The cold and frozen out there But we’re warming here inside Sister light a candle We’ll make it to the morn The sun will rise like always When Jesus Christ is born

about

Sometimes I Feel the Spirit is a Christmas project that began around 2009, when I arranged and recorded a mashup of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "Auld Lang Syne" to share with friends and family.

The next year I wrote an original song, "Christmas Sweaters" and it all began to snowball from there. Each year I would record 2 or 3 Christmas songs - some covers, some originals. Over more than a decade, this album morphed a few times. As I wrote new songs, I sometimes changed the name of the album to fit. Over the years I've released this album on Bandcamp, under various titles, including "Good News! It's Christmas!" and "Christmas Missed Us."

As of December 2023, I've decided on a final(?) version of the album, mostly focused on original songs, with one cover ("We Need a Little Christmas") and the original mashup that started it all. For the first time I am making the album available on streaming platforms as well.

As a Bandcamp exclusive, if you purchase the album here you will also receive bonus tracks that include all the cover songs and traditional Christmas I've released in the past, including Welcome Christmas (from the Grinch), O Come O Come Emmanuel, O Holy Night, and White Christmas..
